Comprehensive Recreation, Park and Open Space Plan Public Meeting 11/29 at 6:30pm

The Upper Gwynedd Township
Comprehensive Recreation, Park and Open Space Plan

The first public meeting for the Comprehensive Recreation, Park and Open Space Plan (CRPOS) will be held on Wednesday, November 29, 2023, from 6:30 - 8:30pm, at the Upper Gwynedd Township Building, located at 1 Parkside Place in North Wales.  All interested citizens are invited to attend and provide their ideas and suggestions for the plan.  

Future meetings will be held at the Township Building on the following dates:

  • Wednesday, March 27, 2024, at 6:30PM
  • Thursday, September 12, 2024, at 6:30PM
  • Tuesday, October 15, 2024, at 6:30PM (Board of Commissioners Meeting)
  • Wednesday, December 4, 2024, at 6:30PM

Public input on potential improvements to Upper Gwynedd Township’s recreation, park and open space system is critical to the success of the plan. Park users can also provide feedback through completing an online public opinion survey that can be accessed at https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/UGT-CRPOSP-Survey.  Additional information and details about the project can be found on the Township's website.

Upper Gwynedd Township has 5 parks that include over 500 acres of passive land and Nature Preserves. The Parks include Parkside Place Park, Rexdale Park, Whittaker Park, Garfield Park, and West Point Park. 

The study will also access and recommend local connectivity improvements to link people to the two planned regional trails – the Liberty Bell Trail and the Powerline Trail – to area parks, residential neighborhoods, places of employment and other local destinations.  

The Township has retained Simone Collins Landscape Architecture of Norristown as lead consultant and Derek Dureka, Certified Park and Recreational Professional, to assist the Township in developing this plan.  

The 12-month long public planning process will conclude in December 2024. The project is partially funded by a grant from the Community Conservation Partnership Program administered by the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR), Bureau of Recreation and Conservation.
