Upper Gwynedd Township Agency Demographics
Upper Gwynedd Township Police provide public safety services to a community of approximately 14,243 people who live within 8.1 square miles. The population estimate for 2005 is 15,410. The racial makeup of the Township is 86.8% White, 7.8% Asian, 4.0% Black or African American, 0.1% American Indian and Alaskan Native and 0.4% from other races. 1.5% of the population is Hispanic or Latino. There are 5,341 households of which 33.7% have children under the age of 18 living with them. 65.3% are married-couples living together. 7.6% of the households have a female householder with no husband present and 25% are non-family households. 21.2% of the households are those living alone and 7.2% of those persons 65 years of age or older. The average household size is 2.63 while the average family size is 3.08. The Township's age and gender diversity is shown in that 33.8% of the population is under the age of 18. Those within the ages of 25-54 make up 47% and those older than 54 make up 19.2%. The median age is 39.9. For every 100 females there are 95.8 males. The median household income is $71,078 and the median family income is $81,371. The per-capita income is $32,806 with the male median income being $52,430. 1.4% of the families and 1/9% of individuals are in poverty status. An informal day-time Census by the police department during the school year in 2000 estimated daytime populations in schools and industry to be between 32,000 and 35,000, excluding households.
